Dr. Neil Farber
6th Degree Black Belt – Kavanah and Hisardut
Madrich Rashi (Head Instructor) at the Center, has over thirty-five years
experience in Martial Arts. Beginning in 1971, he studied judo, shotokan karate,
aikido and kung fu. In 1974, he began Taekwondo and Hapkido and earned his 3rd
Dan Black Belt and Instructor Certification in two different styles. Dr. Farber
is also a certified instructor in Goshindo – Japanese weaponry. Dr. Farber
earned his 2nd Dan Black Belt in Combat Hapkido, a more practical self-defense
system and has spent many years intensely focused on the most practical and
effective defense systems known - the Israeli Combat Arts. Dr. Farber began in
Krav Maga and Haganah, while progressing to 6th Dan Black Belt and Master
Instructor in World Survival Hisardut. He is currently the highest ranking
Hisardut instructor in the Midwest and the only Certified Instructor in LOTAR
(Israeli Antiterrorism) and KAPAP (Israeli hand-to-hand fighting). Dr. Farber
helped develop the Martial Art of Kavanah which incorporates several Israeli
defense styles with many traditional styles of Martial Arts. Dr. Farber is a
Pediatric Anesthesiologist at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and a
Pharmacologist at the Medical College of Wisconsin who has focused his attention
on Alternative Medicines.
Mark Gridley
3rd Degree Black Belt – Kavanah and Hisardut
A Fully Certified Kavanah and Hisardut Instructor at DFKA who has many years of
experience in the martial arts and holds multiple Master level Black Belt
rankings and Instructor Certifications in a variety of different styles
including Taekwondo, Jeet Kune Do, Combat Hapkido (4rd Dan) and Ryukyu Kempo (4rd
Dan). Mr. Gridley is an expert in knife fighting and is a Certified and
Recognized Instructor in Police Defensive Tactics, Self-Defense for the Disabled
and Pressure Point Fighting. He is the Founder and International Director of
Anatomic Targeting Strategies and the Vice President of the International Combat
Hapkido Federation. Madrich (Instructor) Gridley has been inducted into multiple
Black Belt Halls of Fame and is the Wisconsin State Director for the
International Kavanah Federation. He is currently a Senior Instructor and 3rd
Dan black belt in Kavanah and Survival Hisardut. Mr. Gridley is also a
registered nurse who incorporates total health and fitness concepts into his
teaching curriculum.
Greg Baima
1st Degree Black Belt – Kavanah and Hisardut
Mr. Baima is a Certified Kavanah and Hisardut Instructor at DFKA. Mr. Baima has
been studying intensely with Dr. Farber and Master Gridley to achieve his
current status. In addition to Israeli self-defense arts of Kavanah and
Hisardut, Mr. Baima is also very accomplished in many different weapons styles
such as nunchaku, bo staff and cane. He has trained and successfully competed in
Taekwondo and trained extensively in Combat Hapkido. Mr. Baima has taught at the
Wisconsin Athletic Club as a Cardio Kickboxing Instructor and is Certified in
Kavanah Conditioning. Mr. Baima, originally from Illinois also practices as a
psychotherapist.
John Buchman
1st Degree Black Belt – Kavanah and Hisardut
Mr. Buchman is a Certified Kavanah and Hisardut Instructor at DFKA. While Mr.
Buchman began his martial arts career in Taekwondo many years ago, he remained
focused on weightlifting and football as his main sports. Mr. Buchman has
studied intensely with Dr. Farber and Master Gridley both privately and in group
classes. He is our gentle giant instructor. Mr. Buchman uses finesse to
compliment his impressive physical strength to guide students to achieve their
potential.
Renee Sibson
Brown Belt – Kavanah and Hisardut
Ms. Sibson is a Certified Kavanah and Hisardut Instructor at DFKA. Ms. Sibson
has set new attendance records at our Academy. She is a highly dedicated and
accomplished martial artist who began training kickboxing and Israeli
self-defense several years ago. After achieving a blue belt in Krav Maga, she
moved to Wisconsin and has been studying with Dr. Farber at DFKA. Ms. Sibson is
an excellent trainer and well-rounded martial artist.
Kaelah Farber
Brown Belt – Kavanah and Hisardut
Kaelah is a Certified Kavanah and Hisardut Instructor at DFKA. She has been
studying Taekwondo and Hapkido with her father, Dr. Farber for 9 years. She was
awarded her 1st Dan Black Belt at the age of 10. Kaelah has competed in and won
many tournaments in forms, board breaking and sparring. She has studied several
Asian weapons and competed in Chanbara – Japanese padded swords. Ms. Farber has
been studying Israeli-style self-defense for several years and, like her father,
teaches with patience and positive reinforcement.
Joseph Glassman
Brown Belt – Kavanah and Hisardut
Mr. Glassman is a Certified Kavanah and Hisardut Instructor at DFKA. With a
background in competitive wrestling, Mr. Glassman has been training in various
Israeli self-defense styles for the past few 3 years with Dr. Farber and Master
Gridley. He excels at weapons defense and ground survival. Mr. Glassman is a
wonderful instructor who shows respect for those he teaches and is able to bring
out the best in all of his students. We’re proud to have Mr. Glassman as a
member of our teaching staff. Mr. Glassman is a social worker by day and his
ability to help people is well-reflected in his teaching abilities at DFKA.
Orange Belt – Kavanah and Hisardut
Ms. LaDoucier is the Manager at DFKA. She has a hugely varied career history
which includes clinical nutrition, writing, and singing. At one time, Ms.
LaDoucier was on the U.S. Inline Skating Team, ranking 3rd in the nation. After
retiring from skating, she pursued mountain climbing and mountain biking and is
now on her way to earn her black belt in Kavanah. She has been involved in DFKA
for a few years now and is a wonderful support for the academy. Ms. LaDoucier
also assists Dr. Farber with the Kavanah Kids program.

Mr.
Hunnicut has been involved in various martial arts for over 30 years. He holds a
2nd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo and has competed in and won several major
competitions in forms, board breaking and fighting. He has trained for many
years in Hapkido and over the past few years has studied Israeli self-defense
with Dr. Farber. As a firefighter, Mr. Hunnicut is trained in CPR and rescue. He
is currently a liason officer working on Homeland Security with the police
department.
Mr.
Olson is an outstanding Taekwondo practitioner and instructor. He began his
Taekwondo career at the age of 9 and currently holds a 2nd Degree Black Belt in
Jidokwon Taekwondo. He has trained in traditional Hapkido as well as Combat
Hapkido. Mr. Olson spent a year in China and currently teaches Chinese. He also
speaks and writes in Korean. Mr. Olson has been training in ground fighting and
Israeli self-defense with Dr. Farber.
